Boxy Player Guide

Boxy is a multiplayer voxel world you play in a browser or in the native app. You dig, build, craft, fight, trade, and take on quests alongside other players on a shared map that keeps running after you sign out. These pages are the written reference for all of that: what the controls do, how crafting works, what the systems in a world are, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Nothing here is required reading. You can join a world and work most of it out by playing, and the in-game guide (H) covers the first hour. Come back here when you want the full picture, an exact key or command, or a page you can leave open on a second screen.

Read the four guides in order if you are new. Each one assumes the one before it, and together they take you from your first tree to claiming land and running a guild. World operators can change some of what is described here, so treat a world's own rules and its /help output as the final word.

Getting Started

The first session, start to finish: making an account, choosing a world, reading the spawn area, and getting from empty hands to a lit shelter with food in it.

You arrive with nothing. Break a tree by holding the mine button on its trunk, turn the wood into planks and the planks into sticks, and those two make a wooden pickaxe — which is what stone wants. Stone makes the next tier of tools, and from there the world opens up.

Controls

Every input on keyboard and mouse, gamepad, and touch, plus the binding profiles and how to rebind anything you do not like.

The defaults are W A S D to move, Space to jump, left mouse to mine, right mouse to place or use, E to sprint, and I for the inventory. If that is not the layout in your fingers, the Controls screen ships with MT, MC and Arrows profiles, and every action can be rebound individually.

Crafting

How the grid, the recipe book, and the furnace work, then the equipment ladder that runs from a wooden pickaxe to powered machines.

You never have to memorise a pattern. Lay ingredients into the 3×3 grid and the output slot previews the match, or pick a recipe from the Recipes tab and it fills the grid for you. Recipes that ask for planks accept planks from any wood; recipes that ask for a specific ingredient say so.

Covers The crafting grid · Shaped and shapeless recipes · Tool tiers and durability · Furnaces and fuel · Buckets and liquids · Farming and food · Armor slots · Storage · Powered machines

World Guide

The systems that make a world more than terrain: biomes, combat and levels, quests, magic, guilds, the economy, land claims, and the things that hunt you at night.

A creature's level sits next to its name, and the gap between that number and yours matters more than your gear does — a monster several levels above you hits far harder than a fair fight would. The same arithmetic governs world bosses, which sit at the top of the ladder and expect a prepared group.

Covers Biomes and coordinates · Mobs, levels and combat · Death and recovery · Quests and questmasters · Spells and MP · Guilds · Traders, auctions and coins · Mounts and vehicles · Towns · Land claims

FAQ and Troubleshooting

The problems players actually report, each with the checks to run first and the details support needs if the checks do not fix it.

Most "my items vanished" reports end at one of six places: the armor slots, a chest you filled and forgot, a full inventory that had no room for a quest reward, the ground where you died, a vehicle's storage, or an auction listing waiting to be claimed. The page walks the list before you file anything.

Covers Sign-in trouble · Worlds that will not load · Missing items · Recipes that will not craft · Blocks that will not break · Permission and claim errors · Purchases · Appeals · Filing a good bug report
